A Game of I Spy Aboard The Wheel

I Spy Game on The Wheel

We at ICON Park boast a slew of incredible attractions. While we love them all, you may have realized by now that we kind of have a favorite child (Shhh… don’t tell the others). He’s tall, round, perfectly proportioned, and really knows how to light up the night! Surprise! Surprise! He’s The Wheel, and while any ride aboard this big guy is bound to be a blast, we’ve come up with a super cool way to make your flight even more fun (and competitive)- a game of I Spy aboard The Wheel.

Here’s how it works! As you roll across the Orlando skyline at 400 feet, keep your eyes open for the famous O-Town landmarks we’ve listed below. Sites that are harder to spot from up here are worth more points, so your keen eye will be rewarded. Check the box next to a landmark when you find it. Whoever racks up the most points and spots the most sites first wins ultimate bragging rights!

Ready to play? Let’s go!

Orange County Convention Center- 2 Points

Looking out the south side of your capsule, you might spot the stepped windows of the Orange County Convention Center. This state-of-the-art facility is the second largest convention center in the nation, boasting a vast 160 acres in conference space. At that size, this Orlando landmark is pretty hard to miss!

Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay Water Theme Park – 3 Points

When you visit Central Florida, the last thing you probably expect to see is a fuming volcano! If you look out the north window of your capsule, you might just spot the brimstone peak of Krakatau, the centerpiece of Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay Water Theme Park. HINT: look for the only volcano in Orlando…

☐ Sea World’s Mako Roller Coaster- 3 Points

Looking back to the south, you might be able to spot the turquoise track of Sea World’s Mako Roller Coaster winding into the sky. This 200 ft. thrill ride is the tallest roller coaster in Orlando and takes riders through several rollicking inversions at over 70 mph! Sea if you can mako this one out behind the Orange County Convention Center.

Rosen Shingle Creek – 4 Points

Further south, keep your eyes peeled for the Spanish Revival cupolas of the luxurious Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel. This award-winning resort is known for its world-class service, picturesque golf courses, and elegant accommodations. Staying there might cost you a pretty penny but looking is free of charge!

Orlando International Airport- 5 Points

Turning to the east, you might be able to spot the blinking lights on top of the control tower at Orlando International Airport.  Opened in 1981, this former U.S. Air Force Base is now one of the busiest commercial airports in the country! Give yourself a bonus point if you spy any flights taking off or landing.

Spaceship Earth at Epcot- 6 Points

Alright, this is where things start to get tricky. If you squint hard enough to the west, you might spot the top half of what looks like golf ball. This iconic building belongs to Spaceship Earth, the flagship attraction at Walt Disney World Resort’s Epcot. Brownie points of you knew that this 180 ft. tall building is actually a geodesic sphere!

Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom- 8 Points

Looking directly west, the keen-of-eye might spot the futuristic spires of Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom. Did you know this attraction was the first all indoor roller coaster? If you can see this one from The Wheel, your eyesight is out of this world!

Expedition Everest: Legend of the Forbidden Mountain at Disney’s Animal Kingdom- 9 Points

On a clear day, you might be able to spot the snowy peaks of a mountain looming on the western horizon. This precipice belongs to Expedition Everest: Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, a high-speed roller coaster at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Give the yeti a wave for us if you can see him!

SunTrust Center- 9 Points

Standing nearly 450 feet tall, SunTrust Center is the tallest building in Downtown Orlando. Still, it takes an eagle eye to pick it out from the cluster of shadowy skyscrapers to the north. Major props if you can check this off your list.

Amway Center- 10 Points

Ready for a REAL challenge? The Amway Center is the home court of the Orlando Magic, our hometown NBA team. It’s also one of the most popular entertainment venues in town. Only the sharpest eyes will be able to make out it’s sloped roof amid Downtown Orlando to the North. If you’ve got x-ray vision, now’s the time to use it!

So, how’d you do? Feel free to share your score at any of ICON Park’s social media channels so we can congratulate you winners out there! We hope you join us for a game of I Spy aboard The Wheel at ICON Park, Orlando’s Hometown Playground.
