ICON Park Honors Senator Geraldine Thompson

Palm trees around the park to be lit in Senator Thompson’s favorite colors

ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 14, 2025) – Senator Geraldine Thompson dedicated her career to improving Central Florida, and the ICON Park family mourns the loss of one of our community’s most tireless advocates.

In memory of Senator Thompson and her contributions to the Orlando Entertainment District 30 palm trees throughout ICON Park will be lit in her favorite colors, pink and green, on Thursday, Feb. 20 & Friday, Feb. 21. Pink and green are the official colors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Senator Thompson’s beloved sorority that she remained involved with her entire life.

Senator Thompson pointing to the Wells’Built Museum featured by ICON Park on a map. “Senator Thompson represented our district and was a friend to our industry, but most importantly, she was a smart, reasonable person who listened and cared. This is sad news. We will miss our friend and Senator,” said CEO and president of ICON Park Chris Jaskiewicz.

Throughout her career, Senator Thompson was a strong supporter of tourism and ICON Park. She held major events at our destination and always supported new attractions at ICON Park, such as the coming of Blue Man Group.

Thompson helped to establish the Wells’Built Museum of African American History and Culture in Orlando, which is featured on a display paying homage to Orlando’s original tourism attractions in ICON Park’s Wheelhouse.

Parking and admission to ICON Park are always free, and guests can gather on The Lawn to enjoy the palm trees lit in Senator Thompson’s favorite colors.
