Event is free, open to public
WHEN: 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25
WHERE: The Sky Lounge at ICON Park | 8375 International Dr, Orlando, FL 32819
WHAT: Senator Geraldine Thompson will be presenting, “Resistance and African American History – A Black History Event” at ICON Park’s Sky Lounge from 7 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 25. The free event will focus on the resistance of Harry T. Moore who, in the 1940s and 1950s, challenged the status quo in Florida. There will also be a featured presentation by Bill Gary, of the Harry T. Moore Cultural Center, and an exhibit of evidence presented during the 1949 trial of the Groveland Four.
The evidence, now over 70 years old, has not been viewed by the public for more than half a century and was recently released by family members of the Groveland Four to the Wells’Built Museum of African American History and Culture where it will be housed in Orlando. These artifacts will be on display at ICON Park and allow the central Florida community an opportunity to view them and understand more about our regional history, before they become part of the permanent collection of the museum.
ICON Park has been working with Senator Thompson for several years, helping to support her work at the Wells’Built Museum of African American History and Culture in Orlando, and is happy to be invited to have a share in this event.
